GIS Mapping of Schools

GIS mapping of schools has been carried out in association with Bhaskaracharya Institute of Space Application and Geo-Informatics (BISAG) to monitor distance of neighbouring schools from habitation to ensure availability of school as per neighbourhood norms of RTE Act, 2009.

The objective behind this mapping is “To integrate and build facilities in the existing schools under GIS coverage, and to identify the habitations which are served and not served by the existing school facility. Also, it includes planning for the most suitable village location to set up new secondary school based on the 5 km distance criterion, potential enrolment as well as available physical infrastructure, land etc.”

Through GIS, Thematic Mapping of layer’s has been completed, such as identification of areas, location of Roads, Existing schools, Settlements (habitations), Administrative Boundaries, River/Water bodies, Forest etc. Mapping has been done based on District, Taluka, and Village wise geographical data.
